Enhancing Infrastructure Resilience by Using Dynamically Updated Damage Estimates in Optimal Repair Planning: The Power Grid Case

Besides robustness, a crucial aspect of power grid resilience is the postdisruption restoration transmission capacity. Conventionally, repair planning initiated when damage assessment complete. With current communication bandwidth and role drones in inspection, an increasingly dynamic process. Early estimates can serve preliminary planning. Subsequent replanning then performed as updated assessments come in, thus mitigating impact uncertainties. The present work examines gains from starting recovery using repair. A receding horizon approach, model predictive control (MPC), applied to IEEE-39 bus system. benefits are expressed by integral loss service (ILOS), measuring demand not served over time. In baseline, before definitive delivered. this study, MPC reduces maximum ILOS up 57%. terms computation, three prediction steps sufficient for decrease at least 37%.
